Dialogue

Girl: Which holiday would you like to go on, Ricky?
Boy: I don't know ... they all look interesting prices are reasonable, aren't they? Er... I don't know…I think I'd like to go on the wildlife safari.
Girl: Really?
Boy: Yeah, I prefer hot places, you know. South Pole sounds good.
Girl: Mm. I think the trip to Patagonia sounds the most exciting, though.
Boy: Yes? You do?
Girl: I mean, you can really explore somewhere, you know, which isn't full of tourists. It'd be great, 'cause you can go skiing and mountaineering as well.
Boy: True.
Girl: I wouldn't like to go on the safari, actually. You know, sitting around watching giraffes, (laughs) You can see them in the zoo, can't you?
Boy: Yeah, but isn't the weather bad in Patagonia? It’s really windy, isn't it? It's worse than the weather here
Girl: Yeah, that's true.
Boy: And that Patagonia trip sounds a bit, you know, uncomfortable.
Girl: Maybe. But they give you everything you need. Tents, four-wheel-drive cars ... it'd be a real adventure, wouldn’t it?
Boy: No, not really. Not for me. I don't like cold places. I’d really really prefer to go to Africa.
Girl: Well ... not me. Let's have a look at one of the others. What about rafting in Northern Turkey? That sounds quite good, doesn't it?
Boy: Mm right. But I wouldn't like to go rafting. I think It’s really dangerous.
Girl: Oh, come on, Ricky. You'd love it in Turkey. It’s hot there in the summer as well. You can't complain about that.
Boy: No, I suppose not. And at least they've got guest houses. I hate camping.
Girl: Yeah ... I know!
Boy: And maybe I should try rafting.
Girl: Right, great. And we could go to Istanbul on the way back. I've heard it's an amazing place.
Boy: OK ... right, let's go there!

DIALOGUES FOR MODULE 3

1

Woman: Good morning, sir. Can I help you?
Man: Good morning. Well, not so good, really. I'd like to report a theft.
Woman: Just a moment. What exactly was stolen?
Man: My bag. It had my passport, mobile phone, travel’s cheques, you name it.
Woman: Where and when did this happen?
Man: Right outside the tube station. It happened about blocks away. I've been looking for a police officer for about half an hour!
Woman: Right, sir, did you see who took it?
Man: Well, I saw his back, running away! It all happened fast, you know. He was wearing a black woolly hat, jeans trainers.
Woman: Okay, sir, I'll get an officer to see you and take ; statement.

2 Man: Yes, can I help you?
Woman: Hello. Can you give me something for an upset stomach, please? I'm on holiday, and I think it's the changing water.
Man: Yes, er, these tablets should settle your stomach. You just take one tablet a day for three days.
Woman: Just one a day.
Man: Yes, and if you still feel bad, you should see a doctor
Woman: Thank you very much.
Man: Anything else?
Woman: Yes, can you give me something for sunburn? My little boy was out in the park all day yesterday.
Man: This after-sun cream is good. But you should always \ on some cream before you go out in the sun as well. Woman: Yes, I know, but we didn't have any. I'll take some that, too.
Man: Anything else? Woman: No, that's all, thank you.
Man: Okay, that'll be ...

3 Man: Excuse me? I'm trying to get to the Science Museum.
Woman: The Science Museum. Right, you aren't far away.
Now let me see, go along this path through the park. You'll see Kensington Palace on your right. Keep going until you go to a gate. Turn left on to Kensington Road. Go straight down this road, past the Royal Albert Hall, and take the first right at the traffic lights.
Man: First right, okay.
Woman: You go down that road until you come to a tube station, and the museum is just on the right. It's opposite the Victoria and Albert Museum, you can't miss it.
Man: Okay, so it's straight along here, go out of the park and turn left, past the Albert Hall, and then first right. Thanks a lot.
Woman: You're welcome.
Man: Oh, one more thing. Do you know if there is a reduced price for students?
Woman: Well, love, I think it's free nowadays.
Man: Great. Thanks again, bye.
